Case Study – Danya-Cebus (Construction)
Danya-Cebus is one of Israel’s premium construction company. The company is a market leader in high quality construction for over two decades. In addition to Israel, the company also manages projects in eastern Europe (Russia and Romania.) Danya-Cebus is similar to many international engineering and construction companies, managing projects in many locations with many different type of managers and workers. Each construction site needs different telephony services, some just a few simple phones, some a small IP-PBX to manage many phones. Most projects also need link to the local cell phone network. The company operates from three main sites globally and runs a few projects at any one time (from 10 to 20.) The company also operates a small call center to support direct sales of commercial and residential properties. Tikal Networks won a RFQ among traditional telephony suppliers (i.e. Bezeq, Avaya, Alcatel) as well as Internet based purpose built suppliers (i.e. Cisco) in terms of capability, cost and overall ability to support operational needs. In all areas, Tikal Networks’s enhanced Asterisk, Crystal Clear IP-PBX won Danya-Cebus’s requirements.
Tikal Networks installed one system in Danya-Cebus’s main site with handsets connected through the IP (Ethernet) network everywhere else. The system serves as a center for all the calls both internally and internationally. The system connects three main sites with high speed links and the rest of the network connections through standard IP (WAN). Adding phones anywhere in the world is a matter of making an IP connection and “registering” a VoIP handset to the main system server. This process takes a few minutes. Project managers with the IT department can then configure each phone into a “group” (essentially a site). A group is assigned a language (Romanian, Russian, English, Hebrew, etc.) and other related parameters like permission to call outside numbers, blocked numbers, direct dial. There are small cell phone to IP bridges to connect a cell network to the internal Asterisk system. These are connected by IT staff and local cell phone providers. In most countries one flat fee covers all local calls, this way local workers can make all the calls they need without going over budget.
This system gives Danya-Cebus not only control over their cost, but also complete control over telephony resources. The system is also flexible enough to give Danya-Cebus IT staff the ability to change connection features (bandwidth, security, carrier type, etc.) without any need to change telephony features. Finally, project managers also have complete control over site communication without the need to learn a complex communication system. All control and monitoring of phone use (or failures) is done through a web interface. The interface is simple and shared by everyone globally. When changes or failures occurs, a local Russian project manager sees and controls his voice system together with an IT manager anywhere (Israel, Russia, etc.) Overall, Danya-Cebus has upgraded it’s voice communication globally over and above most project management companies. Today, voice communication is making a come back and helping companies work better. Costs are at a networking level, with 80% to 90% reduction in cost over traditional international (non-VoIP) levels. Flexibility and reliability of communication with remote sites, together with connections to cell phones is so transparent, managers and workers no longer hesitate to use voice as a preferred way of communication.
